Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC’s) – End of Transition Period – Brexit

The transition period ended on 31st December 2020.  The Government announced that the Treaty agreed with the EU will allow personal data to flow freely from the EU (and EEA) to the UK, until adequacy decisions have been adopted, for no more than six months.

The Information Commissioners Office recommend as a sensible precaution, before and during this period that businesses that work with EU and EEA organisations who transfer personal data to them put in place alternative transfer mechanisms, to safeguard against any interruption to the free flow to EU and UK personal data.

On the 19th February 2021 the European Commission published its draft decisions on the UK’s adequacy under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) and Law Enforcement Directive (LED). In both cases, the European Commission has found the UK to be adequate.

The draft decisions will now be considered by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and a committee of the 27 EU Member Governments.

However, an adequacy decision is not guaranteed, and it has been widely recommended by various regulatory bodies and indeed Brokers Ireland that at a minimum, company’s ensure that GDPR appropriate safeguards in place, such as SCC’s with business partners to ensure business continuity. In being proactive MIS took steps to issue SCC’s ahead of the initial extension period expiration date April 2021.  A further extension has now been agreed to end June 2020.

We would like to take this opportunity to explain that the SCC’s relate to our Breakdown Recovery Service in the Republic of Ireland.  Whilst we endeavour to administrate this service from our local Irish office it may become necessary for overflow to be actioned by our Belfast Office.  With the nature of this service, we wish to be in a position to assist customers quickly and efficiently.

MIS Underwriting Limited, Dundalk will continue to administrator all MIS Underwiring Insurance Products exclusively.

We would hope that the UK will receive the adequacy decision and the SCC’s will not be required, however we feel it is best to be prepared ahead of time.

‘Just a wee Cycle’

“Just a wee cycle!” On 26th May, five of our fittest took on the challenge of our Cycle of Hope, cycling 400 miles (Whitehead – Cork) across Ireland.

This proved to be no easy feat, especially with the start of the warm summer weather we all loved! We are incredibly proud of every person who completed the cycle; your mental and physical strength is most admirable.

Below are some pics of the cyclists’ send off which included the very special moment that one of our directors, Jonathan Ogilby rose the flag of Hope which was then carried the whole way to Cork in honour of every single person who has fought a battle with Cancer.

This is not a sentiment we hold lightly, the opportunity to support @Hope House Ireland@Hope House as they support those in the midst of their battle is one which we value highly.

Fleet Team

MIS Claims is a specialist in road traffic accident management. For over 25 years, we have been helping the people of Northern Ireland pick themselves up, dust themselves off and get back on the road after being involved in a road traffic collision.

Pictured above is our happy fleet team posing in the sunshine. They are a critical aspect of our business and responsible for a fleet in excess of 200 vehicles.

The Fleet Team is responsible for an extensive collection of replacement vehicles which are hired to clients as temporary replacements while their own is off the road.   The vehicle is charged to the insurer of the third party who caused the collision.

In terms of cars, we have a wide range which will cover all needs; from a small Kia Picanto right up to an Audi Q7 or a Range Rover Velar.  Whatever your requirements, you can rest assured that MIS Claims has got you covered.  The same goes for our selection of replacement vans, which could prove to be essential for those involved in a trade business. Whether you need a Citroën Berlingo or an LWB Citroën Relay, you can count on MIS Claims. And what’s more, our fleet includes taxis, dual control vehicles, 7 seater vehicles, automatic vehicles and vehicles with tow bars, should you have any special requirements.

MIS has also invested in delivery trucks so that we can deliver straight to you or your repairing garage and collect it again saving you any hassle.
