MIS GROUP DO MISSION CHRISTMAS

We love working with the community. It is very rewarding knowing you are able to work and help each other out together. This year we decided to volunteer to be a drop off point for Mission Christmas.

Mission Christmas is a campaign ran by a charity called Cash for Kids. Their goal for this campaign is to respond to the needs of children in the community to make sure they have presents to open on Christmas morning. There are thousands of children who don’t get the luxury of waking up to presents on Christmas day. For some families, they just can’t afford Christmas and children are left with no presents.

Cash for Kids are looking for new and unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young people aged 0-18. When you donate a gift, they will make sure that they go to disadvantaged children in the local area. All the gifts should be new and unwrapped. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to support this campaign and drop by our office to donate a gift if you can.

We will be accepting gifts up until Tuesday 17th December 2019.

Our address is,

37 Comber Road,

Dundonald,

Belfast

BT16 2AA

If you are unable to drop a gift into us due to location, check out the map online which will show you closer locations that are also accepting gifts. http://www.cashforkids.uk.com/mission/

Adapting your driving for winter conditions!

It has come to that time of year again where the weather is starting to become more miserable. The temperatures are dropping, the rain is getting heavier, it is getting darker earlier and the winds are getting stronger.

The road conditions can be really challenging, especially in the winter. It becomes more difficult for drivers as there is a lot to consider when planning a journey during bad weather.

The met office has listed a number of tips that they recommend when driving in these conditions.

Choices and planning ahead

  • Even moderate rain can reduce your ability to see and be seen. A good rule of thumb is ‘if it’s time for your wipers, it’s time to slow down’.
  • If heavy downpours are expected, avoid starting your journey until it clears.
  • If you can, choose main roads, where you are less likely to be exposed to fallen branches and debris and flooding.
  • Use dipped headlights if visibility is seriously reduced.
  • Gusts of wind can unsettle vehicles – grip your steering wheel firmly with both hands. This is particularly important when planning to overtake.
  • Keep an eye out for gaps between trees, buildings or bridges over a river or railway – these are some of the places you are more likely to be exposed to side winds. Ensure that you maintain enough room either side of your vehicle so you can account for it being blown sideways.
  • Roads will be more slippery than usual in wet weather – be sure to give yourself more time to react when approaching a hazard. Increase your following gap to at least four seconds from the moving traffic in front.
  • Keep your eyes peeled on the road at all times as spray from other vehicles can suddenly reduce your visibility. Remember it affects others too, so anticipate their actions and be prepared.

What to do when the road is flooded

  • On flooded roads, think before driving through deep water; don’t stop in standing water, and drive through the highest section of the road slowly. If there is any doubt don’t enter it.
  • Once you have managed to drive through check your brakes and dry them out as quickly as possible – a light touch of the brakes whilst still moving should do the trick.
  • RAC offers more in-depth advice about driving through water and floods.

Keep an eye out for cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians

  • Remember to give vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual. They are more likely to be blown around by side winds – always keep a safe distance.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

At MIS Claims, we have been dealing with road traffic accidents claims for 25 years. Before summer, we decided that it was time for a change and rebranded to MIS Group. To celebrate the launch of our new branding we ran a competition that offered drivers the chance to win a car for a year! In order to enter and get your hands on a Kia Sportage 1.76 CRDi, with insurance included, the public had to enter either via Facebook, Instagram or on our website.

Social media influencer and Cool FM’s Paulo Ross launched the competition for us by taking the competition car on a road trip and documenting his journey to his followers on Instagram. And it was one of his followers who entered and won!

Julie Phillips, a Mental Health Nurse from Belfast is our lucky winner of a Kia Sportage for a year, plus insurance with AXA NI arranged by Hughes Insurance. Paulo joined us to deliver the car to Julies home along with our Operations Director Jonathan Ogilby & Marketing Executive Cortney Rowan. Health to drive Julie!!

We would like to thank everyone who entered our competition. Check out our pages on social media to keep up to date with what we are doing.

One Year Later….

Reminiscing this time last year when we had our “Big reveal” for Hope House Ireland.

As you all know from following us on our journey, unfortunately we lost our Director Alan Baillie last year to cancer. His chosen charity was Hope House Ireland. Hope House was founded by Dawn and Roy McConnell who also battled cancer in their own lives. They both decided to create the most beautiful place for cancer patients and their loved ones to come for a short period of time. From experience, they believe the best thing to do is to remove yourself from normal everyday life and take a few days break to adjust to the changes a cancer diagnosis brings.

As this was Alan’s chosen charity, we decided as a Company to do something to raise money together. On 26th May 2018, six of our staff members took on the challenge of our Cycle of Hope, cycling 400 miles (Whitehead- Cork) across Ireland. Of course, they carried the ‘Flag of Hope’ with them the whole way to Cork in honour of every single person who has fought a battle with cancer.

The same month, most of the MIS team took part in the 40-mile cycle challenge to raise money for Hope House. Everyone was very committed and trained in their spare time, whether it was lunch time on the office stationary bike or in their spare time at home when they went out on their own bikes. It was an activity that motivated everyone and was something different to do together as a team for an even more special reason.

It’s hard to believe our “Big reveal” was this time last year when we announced to Hope House that we had raised £145,000. We couldn’t believe it ourselves. Our MIS team, family and friends had managed to do something so special and donated their time and money to this amazing project that means a lot to the company. It was an absolute honour for us as a company to support Hope House Ireland.

One year later……We held a Hope House company BBQ over the weekend. It was lovely to have members of staff up to see the progress on the house and to catch up with Dawn and her team. Our relationship continues as we have some big plans in the works for the future. Keep an eye out for what our next company project with them will be.  #teamhope #misforyou

There has been a lot of hard work going on over the last couple of months with the help of the wonderful team at Bag of Bees. We are proud to finally present MIS GROUP which will incorporate MIS Claims, MIS Breakdown and MIS Underwriting.

We wanted to thank Nikki Miller Cake Design, Fletcher Meats, Patton’s Bakery and Death by Cheesecake who supplied all the food for our recent office BBQ when we revealed our new look to our staff. We also had promotional products made to treat our staff for their desk!
